I’m online, so you’re getting my (SinFrog!) two cents first. I’ll let the other mods weigh in through reblogs, since I don’t really know who I’m most excited for, and answer your other questions first.

Regarding the Midnight Crew, I should have actually said ‘Archagents’, since I’m referring to the SBURB construct characters in general rather than those specific variants from canon. I’m unsure if their variations from the troll of cherub session will be included, but expect to see their beta kid versions in the post.

As for Her Eternal Perfection, she *is* still Alternian Meenah, yes. She’s Queen Elizabeth II instead of Betty Crocker, hence Jane’s last name being Windsor.

Omega is an exception, built a Gizoid with data from Knuckles. Shadow Android took the role of Metal during the events of what would've been Sonic CD and Heroes, though he used Maria (who is alive and well in this universe) as his vessel.

My summary: In this humorous fic, Sonic and Shadow sort of change places. Rouge is a kid.

Sonic Fusion AU. There lore to this AU made by some people I met on Discord. @hydro-city-zone was the one who made the originally made these designs and SinFrog (who I'm not sure has a Tumblr) came up with lore. They've only talked about on Discord from what I've seen.

For those who can't figure out who is what pair(don't tag this as ships!![okay, maybe there is a little sonamy with Wish] still not gonna use tag though) they're all fusions with Sonic, so for Ember, it's Knuckles, Termina is with Shadow, Nimbus is with Tails, and Wish is with Amy(duh!).

1. Renewed Return, by Marcy Nabors - Not much explanation needed, it’s so incredible it almost (almost) makes up for Jane’s severe and tragic lack of songs.

2. Jane Dargason, by Clark Powell and RJ Lake - Catchy, cool, overall super fun theme for both Jane and LOCAH.

3. Cyan Beast, by David Ellis - For whatever reason I used to really dislike this one, but it’s grown and grown on me until it’s now p much my number one choice for a Janestrife song.

4. Nurse, by SinFrog - From the first Janestuck album, which is great and you should check it out. They’ve got two entire albums of fun reworkings of classic homestuck tunes for the mspfanventures story in which everyone is Jane. Just. Everyone is Jane. 

5. Cumulating Dreams, by Jeremy “Solatrus” Iamurri, with Clark Powell on cello - For some reason I keep forgetting about this one but yeah it’s super pretty and anything with Clark’s cello gets a boost up my faves list.

Runners up: Cupcake Girl by Liam O’Donnell, Jane’s Theme by David “Dirtiest” Dycus, and Princess of Helium by Clark Powell.

making sure i understand correctly- do troll ancestors remain the same as they were in canon? does vriska maryam look up to the dolorosa or some altered version of her? is kanaya serket trying to live up to/ignore the shadow cast on her by marquis mindfang or something else? and the question that brought me here- the headmistress is stiill damara megido- are there effects backwards from gamzee being her descendant?

This is correct. Just like the humans, only the Beta Trolls have been 'swapped', meanwhile the Alpha Trolls have been warped due to being the descendants of pre-Scratch versions of said swapped trolls.

A while ago, Hydro drew this companion piece to an older infographic, which I'll attach for visual aid.

(note that we didn't swap the scratch around or anything, the Beta Trolls are just on the left because they're introduced first :P)

Trolls like Vriska, who are very interested in their Ancestors in canon, retain that trait in ALTERFALL, hence why she has this whole vampire aesthetic going on and is very proud of her connection to the Virgin Mother Grub. Meanwhile, Equius, someone who buys massively into the Hemospectrum, suffers from self-loathing and a 'cog in the machine' mentality rather than highblood supremacy. I'd definitely recommend giving the old character posts a fresh look with this in mind, as it can reveal a lot of the reasons why we chose certain directions with the characters!

How did all of you do the fancy mod color texts? And also the blood color texts on that one post about teasing Equius Nitram after half of the bloodswaps are shown?

Tumblr posts are able to be made using a HTML format, which allows for custom hexcodes to be implemented. We particularly use a site called homestuck5plus to get easy access to code for any log-style text or custom formatting. FlaringK, who made the site, is a good friend of the AF team and helps us with custom code for our blog!

Lunar sways are unchanged. You can tell by the Trolls' signs!

Kanaya serket my beloved

I meant to reply to this around the time the Kanaya comm was posted like 'surprise! lucky you!' but I forgot :P. Instead, I'll yap a bit about Kanaya's design.

Lampopo isn't a Homestuck artist by trade, so I wanted to make sure I pointed out the details and discrepancies between drawings. Many characters in AF had little details or tweaks made to their looks over time that were solidified in the 2024 recap post, but for Kanaya specifically, the main changes made were that her horns are a bit sharper and her hair shape was tweaked ever so slightly (this was another thing that happened to a lot of characters, making their cuts more 'shaped' so as for easier reproduction).

Some other details...

Making this 'style guide' was a good opportunity to even further address ambiguities in Kanaya's design. What does the back of her outfit look like? What *is* she wearing on her feet, anyway? Despite our attempts to create a sense of cohesion between drawings, I also wanted to stress that - much like a comic or cartoon character - ALTERFALL (and HOMESTUCK characters in general) are malleable in terms of things like proportions, so I encouraged Lampopo to not hold back in drawing the character how they liked (though I used some complex wording that was a bit overwhelming to them at first, lol, be kind to your multilingual artists!).

By the way, we didn't really discuss the whole dress spokes thing after the art was done, but Hydro did mention that Kanaya is probably wearing long boots. In hindsight, it would make way more sense if Kanaya had three dress spokes at the front AND the back, with single ones at the sides to make up the 8... I was just staring at that initial fullbody where the skirt fans out a lot, lol. Either way, the idea is that it would be like an 8-pointed star if viewed from above.

We also talked about what the back of her top might look like. Here's my original:

Amelia drew this one, which is similar to the backless dress Amy Rose wears.

Hydro then sent a few images, with this one being the closest to what they'd had in mind when drawing Kanaya. So this is probably what it'd look like if she turns around in the future.

If you made it this far into the post, you must be a real KANAYA FREAK... Or maybe just a nerd who likes the thoughts that go behind pretty pictures on the internet. In either case, here's a present: The original draft sketches of Kanaya Serket from September 2022, where we drafted all the Trolls on a group drawing website.

The big fancy sketch is by Hydro. The small one at the top is mine, and the cute one off to the right is Amelia's.

While the others were drawing other things, I started with Kanaya, because everyone looked at the idea of a spidery Kanaya Maryam and decided that it was pretty squarely within my writing and design wheelhouse. As these sessions tend to go, we talked about what she'd be like in terms of personality and lore as I did the first sketch. I'll be the first to say that my visual art skills aren't exactly honed to perfection, and I don't really remember if I was planning to draw an outfit or if this was just my way of constructing basic anatomy... But either way, the looming eyes of Spidermom and the shape of her horns can both be seen here.

Amelia's design is where the bells and whistles come in, adding a spidery little outfit and a big emo bang swooping over her face. This is, not-so-subtly, inspired by my personal sona character (AKA what I look like exactly in real life).

Since both images depicting me in ALTERFALL posts have me wearing divine jammies, here's the design specifically getting referenced. The bang, pointy spiderweb-inspired skirt and long boots all made it to the final outfit, though the bang swapped sides. A bun was also added! Hydro and Amelia were sketching at around the same time, so I actually don't recall who came up with the bun first, or if even I may have suggested it out loud.

In general, her hair is meant to look tightly strung-up, but messy and fraying apart - just another thing she's constantly fretting over. It's one of my favourite parts of her design, since it says a lot about her personality as someone who just can't give themselves any slack.

Looking back, Kanaya's design is probably one of, if not the most collaborative one between all of us, since you can trace back so many elements to these three doodles. That's nice. I'm pretty much out of things to say for now, so I hope that you enjoyed this extended yap sesh about what goes into ALTERFALL character designs. Making the style guide itself was really fun, and I'd love to try making some for other characters as well for anyone who's interested.

Other than june, are any other characters going to be trans in the alterfall cannon?

Dave is nonbinary (he/they), but besides that - though it hasn't really come up - Vriska is transfem as per canon.

Now that all the characters are done ( or at least it seems that way) what do you guys plan on posting next?

Characters aren't *quite* done. We've been planning an 'auxiliary characters' post for a while that I think at one point included the Cherubs, but is currently set to show off:

- Guardians

- Sprites

- The Midnight Crew

And other such roles. I'm not 100% sure if AF's equivalent to The Felt will be included, nor any Exiles.

Ancestors and Alpha Trolls will also probably not be included, but we plan to show off all the Alpha Trolls at some point - they've all actually been designed already! Same with a good amount of Ancestors across Beforus and Alternia.

TL;DR there will be at least one more character post in a looser format covering more ground, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets chopped up finer as ideas come together. Hopefully we'll have other art, writing and forms of content to keep you all entertained!

(By the way, have any of you checked out the blog's theme on PC? There's gonna be character bios on there soon, and even now there's some fun stuff to mess with.)

So, this one's kind of on us, because during the process of getting the blog's theme working, we had some trouble formatting the about page with a copy of our FAQ. As a band-aid, here's some screenshots:

How does the altered meteor fall change which cherub comes out on top?

The same as it ever was: Nature vs Nurture.

To be fully transparent, there are some things in ALTERFALL that *can't* be traced purely back to swapping the meteor landings spots - if we were 100% purist about that, there wouldn't be any bloodswaps. *Those* came about because to swap a troll's Lusus with another, they'd obviously need to match blood colours, and it helps to be able to use the term 'bloodswap' for tags :P

But I'm getting off track. If you look back at the original post, you'll notice The Headmistress, who is teaching them all sorts of things in one of the most hostile, health-degrading environments of them all: School. Worse still, a boarding school where they have no true freedom and are subject to constant pressure to learn seemingly inane subjects to please their Guardian.

Cross-reference this with that final point in the original post about how Calliope's mind has been 'twisted' by her experiences at Caduceus Academy and that there is nobody she hates more than her brother - who is confidently complacent regarding the matter of predomination. Clearly, something has gone very, *very* wrong in the cherubs' development for things to have turned out this way.

Putting all that aside, one of the most important things to bear in mind about ALTERFALL's deviations from canon is that no event or person exists in a vacuum, so one change can cascade into a million more increasingly grandiose alterations. Lord English does not exist as we know him in ALTERFALL, which means that events that might seem to have been messed with at random could very well have been manipulated by forces beyond Space and Time.
